Four places argued about pickleball noise this week. None decided anything.
Thousand Oaks, CA: the parks board met Oct 15 on 12 proposed courts next to an equestrian park. No outcome published. Clearwater, FL: the council voted 4-0 Oct 14 to negotiate turning a golf course into a racquet club with 24 indoor courts. Negotiation only, not approval to build.
Boise: the council met Oct 13 on converting four tennis courts into 12 pickleball courts, with 84 percent of 850 plus written comments in support. No vote published. Brentwood, CA: an Oct 19 meeting weighed closing four Creekside courts on Oct 26. Outcome unknown.
Why it matters: New courts keep getting built and immediately meet resistance from neighbors. Every one of these fights is about whether courts survive contact with the people who live next to them. The sport's growth now runs through zoning hearings as much as through pro shops.
