Wilson hosts the state, Weaverville opens its doors

October 27, 2026

The NC Senior Games pickleball finals run Oct 22 to 27 at the J. Burt Gillette Athletic Complex in Wilson, with more than 1.1k individuals in the tournament setup, age brackets from 50 to 100+, singles, doubles, and mixed at $15 per event, played with a Franklin X-40 ball. Competition days: doubles 50 to 64 on Oct 22, mixed 50 to 64 on Oct 23, singles all on Oct 24, mixed 65 and older on Oct 25, doubles 65 to 74 on Oct 26, doubles 75 and older on Oct 27.

That is a statewide senior tournament in the same week as this edition, and it is not Charlotte centric. Seniors are the players for whom structured competition and social play matter most, and Wilson is that at state scale. Do not quote a seven figure economic impact figure for Wilson without a second source; the aggregator piece carrying it is single source.

In Weaverville, Ballcrank Pickleball Club was scheduled to open Oct 24, 3 to 7pm, with 12 indoor cushion courts, pay as you play plus memberships, $15 for a two hour day session and $5 for annual members. No attendance or opening day coverage was found in search this week, so this article does not claim a successful opening. The Appalachian Amateur Open at Ballcrank is listed for Dec 5 to 6, 2026, skill levels 2.5 to 5.0, early bird $65 first event, $45 second, $25 third.

Why it matters: Wilson shows what public facility use at scale looks like for senior players. Ballcrank, if it opened as planned, gives the Asheville region its first dedicated indoor option heading into winter, and its December tournament will be the first real test of whether winter demand fills 12 courts.
