Three towns, three answers on noise

October 27, 2026

Brentwood, California confirmed its Creekside Park pickleball courts will close Nov 2, 2026, with temporary courts at the Sunset Sports Complex opening Nov 3. The Sept 21 council action had already allocated $1.7M for future courts at Sunset plus temporary courts, and directed closure once the Sunset lot was striped. The Oct 19 special meeting followed a Brown Act cure and correct demand from players who said the Sept 21 agenda never disclosed closure as an option.

The background explains why the closure stings. Creekside courts were completed in Aug 2024. Hours were cut to 7am to 7pm in March 2025 after noise complaints. There were 21 police calls for service between July 1, 2025 and June 14, 2026, covering after hours play, noise, fence jumping, and trespassing. One player said on record that Creekside gave a newcomer a friend group and a reason to stay in Brentwood.

Belfast, Maine chose a winter pause instead. The city council unanimously approved removing City Park pickleball nets for winter on Nov 12 and appointing a liaison to work with the local club on an alternative location, after months of noise complaints.

Calimesa, California kept its hours. The council voted unanimously to make Mountainview Park courts' 6am to 10pm hours permanent, while directing staff to shut court lights at 9:30pm, after a neighbor living feet from the courts complained about late night noise and alcohol containers. The council did not cut hours.

Why it matters: Supply that does not survive contact with neighbors is not durable supply. Three councils heard the same complaint and made three different calls, and only one of them took courts away. That spread is the noise docket in miniature, and it is why every court fight now gets logged with its verdict, not just its blowup.
