Your call, not hers: the open play pileup

October 27, 2026

A Facebook group post on Oct 23 by Mike Oliver recounts a 3.5 level open play dispute: a baseline ball called out, the opponent accusing him of cheating and leaving the game. About 200 comments split between backing the call and asking whether the caller has a reputation for tight calls, with a long debate over whether offering a replay defuses tension or rewards pressure.

Reels piled on all week. A PickleTown reel on Oct 24 plays the same fight for laughs, with viewers tagging friends as the cheater. An Apex Pickleball Clubs reel on Oct 26 shows a player repeatedly calling shots out while replays show balls well inside the line. A Miguel Montano reel on Oct 26, Stop baiting bad calls, argues three rules: if unsure, call it in; normalize overruling a partner's wrong call; and do not question every close call. A Girl Next Court reel on Oct 23 argues it is not just the call, it is the behavior: confident false calls, repeated by the same people, under pressure.

Why it matters: This is the pro argument in rec players own words, and the throughline is trust. At every level the question is not just whether a ball was in. It is whether you believe the person who called it.
